I am having issues with the connection, what can I do?
If you are experiencing issues syncing to or from Health Connect, work through the steps below.
General checks
- Make sure Health Connect is updated to the latest version via the Play Store.
- Make sure Lifesum is updated to the latest version.
- Make sure the connected app (Samsung Health, Fitbit, Google Fit, Oura, etc.) is updated to its latest version.
- Under Automatic Tracking in Lifesum, confirm Health Connect is still selected as the active source and reconnect it if needed.
- In Health Connect, go to App permissions > Lifesum, and confirm the specific data types you expect (steps, active calories, workouts, nutrition, hydration) are switched on. Steps alone will not produce a calorie value if calorie/workout permissions are not also granted.
Sync works some days but not others
This is usually caused by Android battery optimization suspending Health Connect or the source app in the background, so data does not sync consistently. Set both Health Connect and the connected source app (for example Garmin Connect, Samsung Health) to Unrestricted battery usage in the phone's app settings. Samsung devices in particular apply additional manufacturer-level background restrictions on top of standard Android battery optimization, so ask for the device model if the issue persists after this step.
Burned calories not importing correctly, or steps sync but calories don't
Check that only one source is active in Lifesum's Automatic Tracking settings. Also confirm the source app is sending Active Calories or full Workout records into Health Connect, not just step count, and that Lifesum has read permission for those specific data types under Health Connect > App permissions > Lifesum.
Duplicated or conflicting values when multiple apps are connected (for example Samsung Health and Health Connect together)
Samsung Health has its own direct connection to Lifesum that is separate from Health Connect, with a different API. Having both connected at the same time is a common cause of duplicated or conflicting exercise and calorie data. To resolve:
- In Lifesum, go to Automatic Tracking and keep only Health Connect active.
- In Samsung Health, disconnect the direct Lifesum connection.
- In Health Connect, verify Lifesum's read permissions are correctly scoped for the data types being synced.
Nutrition or food data not appearing in Health Connect
Food logged using Multimodal (AI) Tracking is not currently sent to Health Connect. If nutrition data is missing on the connected app's side, check under Customize Diary whether Multimodal Tracking is enabled, and disable it if the user wants all logged food to sync through.
Calorie or nutrition values differing between Lifesum and the connected app
If the values shown in Lifesum do not match what is reflected in the connected app, this can be a cache versus server-side mismatch, and can appear as either higher or lower than expected, not only lower. Workaround: delete the affected food or exercise entry in Lifesum and re-add it, which forces the app to fetch the current value from the server rather than a stale cached one.
