AI Tracking - Explained - Android

We are currently rolling out a new version of our Multimodal Tracking feature, this changes the name from Multimodal Tracking to AI Tracking, or Track with AI. This update is currently rolling out on Android to our users and you will access the new version with the 20.5.1 release. If you have not yet received the update, don't worry, it will become available soon. These changes will later be released to iOS users as well. You can read more about how the old version works here.

Update Overview

We’ve introduced a major update to AI Tracking — a faster, clearer, and more intuitive way to track your meals in Lifesum.

This redesigned experience makes it easier to log food using AI, while also giving you full access to the Classic Food Tracking tools whenever you need them. Everything is now more flexible, allowing you to choose the tracking method that suits you best.

What’s New?

AI Tracking (formerly Multimodal Tracking)

Multimodal Tracking is now called AI Tracking. You’ll see this name updated throughout the app.

Meal Cards now visible by default

Your Diary now always shows Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Snacks — even before you log any meals.

This makes it easier to:

  • Get a clear overview of your daily calorie intake
  • Quickly choose which meal to track under

Access Classic Food Tracking anytime

With AI Tracking turned on, you can now also:

  • Search and log foods from the Food Database
  • Use the Classic Food Tracking view

To access it:

  • Go to Diary
  • Press the "+" button (bottom of the app or next to a Meal Card)
  • Select Search Foods

AI tools directly in the chat

Inside the AI chat interface, you now have direct access to:

  • Recents
  • Favorites
  • Quick Track
  • Search Food

You no longer need to press an extra "+" button to find these options.

Classic Tracking now includes AI access

If you prefer the Classic Food Tracking view, you can still use AI:

  • Simply press "Track with AI" from within the Classic view

Choose your default tracking experience

You can switch between AI Tracking and Classic Tracking at any time.

To turn off AI Tracking:

  1. Scroll to the bottom of your Diary
  2. Tap "Customise Diary"
  3. Turn off "Track with AI"

When turned off:

  • Pressing the "+" will open the Classic Food Tracking view by default

Premium Access

AI Tracking is a Premium feature.

When you purchase Lifesum Premium, AI Tracking is automatically enabled.

Tracking for Different Dates

  • Tap the Calendar icon in the top right corner of the AI screen
  • Select the date you want to track for

Tracked entries for other dates will be clearly indicated.

Smart Suggestions

Above the text input bar, you’ll see Smart Suggestions:

  • Foods you frequently log at that time of day
  • Tap to quickly add them to your Diary

Editing Meals After Tracking

To update a meal:

  1. Open it from your Diary
  2. Tap "Add more food"

This reopens the AI chat where you can:

  • Add ingredients (e.g., “add milk”)
  • Replace items (e.g., “replace rice with quinoa”)

You can also edit directly in chat using natural language.

Tips for Best Results

  • Voice input: Be clear and specific

(“150 grams of grilled salmon with broccoli”)

  • Image input:

Use well-lit, focused photos with only the food in frame

  • Barcode scanning:

Ensure the barcode is centered and clearly visible

  • Quick Track:

Ideal for fast manual entries when you know the values

Important Notes on AI Accuracy

Food recognition limitations

  • Blurry or complex images may reduce accuracy
  • Vague descriptions (e.g., “a salad”) may give less precise results

Portion size estimates

AI estimates portion sizes based on your input.

You can always adjust amounts manually after logging.

Food data variations

Nutritional values may vary depending on:

  • Brand
  • Recipe
  • Cooking method

How to Improve Accuracy

  • Provide detailed descriptions with quantities
  • Use clear, well-lit photos focused on the food

This updated AI Tracking experience gives you the best of both worlds — powerful AI logging and full access to Classic Food Tracking — making it easier than ever to track your meals your way.
