Why Has My Diary View Changed After Upgrading to Premium?
If you’ve recently upgraded to Lifesum Premium and noticed that your Diary looks different, no need to worry — everything is working as intended. Premium users are automatically opted into Multimodal Tracking, our newest and most intuitive way to log meals.
What Is Multimodal Tracking?
Multimodal Tracking is a redesigned, AI-powered tracking experience that makes logging food faster, clearer, and more natural. Instead of switching between multiple tools and screens, everything is brought together in one simple, conversational interface.
With this update, your Diary view changes slightly:
- The classic Breakfast, Lunch, Snack, and Dinner sections are no longer shown upfront.
- Food tracking now starts from a chat-style screen rather than the old database search.
How to Track Food with the New Diary View
To log food, tap the “+” icon at the bottom center of the app. This opens the main Chat Screen, where you can choose the tracking method that works best for you:
- Text or Voice – Type directly into the chat or tap the microphone icon to speak. Typed entries are tracked instantly without extra steps.
- Camera & Barcode – Tap the Camera icon to take a photo of your meal or scan a barcode in the same place.
- Quick Options – Tap the “+” icon next to the Camera to access:
- Recents: Recently logged meals and foods from previous days.
- Favorites: Your saved recipes, meals, and food items.
- Quick Track: Manually add a meal with known calories and macronutrients (carbs, protein, and fat).
Above the input bar, you’ll also see Smart Suggestions — foods you often log at that time of day — so you can add everyday items with just one tap.
How Lifesum Assigns Meals
When you log food without specifying a meal, Lifesum automatically assigns it to Breakfast, Lunch, Snack, or Dinner based on the time of day or the type of food.
If you want to choose a meal manually, you can do so at the top of the Chat Screen. You’ll also see a suggested calorie range for that meal. After tracking, you can always move items by opening them in your Diary and changing the meal category.
Prefer the Classic Diary View?
If you’d rather use the Classic Tracking view — with clearly separated meal sections and the traditional database search — you can switch back at any time.
To turn off Multimodal Tracking:
- Scroll to the bottom of your Diary.
- Tap Customize Diary.
- Toggle off Multimodal Tracking.
Alternatively, you can manage this setting via:
Profile → Settings → Diary Settings
You’re free to switch Multimodal Tracking back on whenever you’d like to try it again.
