Food Tracking
Tracking your food is a cornerstone of using Lifesum effectively. It provides valuable insights into your eating habits and delivers personalised feedback, empowering you to make informed choices and stay on track toward your unique health and wellness goals. Here's a step-by-step guide to get you started:
Starting the Tracking Process
- Via the Diary: Tap the "+" button at the bottom of the Diary screen, then select the meal you want to track.
- Directly in a Meal Section: Tap the "+" button within a specific meal section.
Once you've chosen a meal to track, you'll be taken to a tracking screen. This screen differs depending on whether you're a new user or have tracked food previously:
- New Users: The screen will initially be empty.
- Returning Users: You’ll see a history of tracked items categorised under "Recent", "Favorites", and "You have tracked" for easy access.
Exploring the Tracking Screen
Here’s an overview of the key sections and features available for tracking food:
- **Search Bar**
Type the name of the food item you're looking for. Results will include matches from the Lifesum food database and items you've created or saved under Favorites (e.g., meals, recipes, or custom food items).
- **Barcode Scanner**
Tap the barcode icon to scan a product's barcode and find it in the database.
- **Daily Intake **
Keep track of your daily calorie and macronutrient intake in this section.
- **Recent Items**
Quickly re-track items you’ve recently added to a meal. Just click the "+" button next to the desired item.
- **Favorites**
Access previously saved or self-created items here, displayed in historical order. Tap "+" to re-track an item.
- **Tracked Items**
View all the items already tracked for the selected meal.
- **Same as Yesterday**
Conveniently re-track the same foods you ate the previous day by tapping the "+" next to the meal.
- **Additional Menu Options**
Tap the three dots in the top-right corner for more features, including:
- Quick Track: Enter basic calories and macros without additional nutritional details.
- Create Food: Add custom food items with detailed nutrition information. These will appear under Favorites.
- Create Meal: Build custom meals by combining multiple food items. These will also be saved under Favorites.
- Create Recipe: Develop your own recipes with step-by-step instructions and ingredients. These too will be saved under Favorites.
Important Notes
- Lifesum Verified Items: Marked with a blue badge, verified items are sourced from official food databases.
- Favorites: Custom items and saved food are marked with a heart for easy identification.
- If you want to edit or delete self-created Favorite items you can do so under Progress -> Favorites.
