How can I change my Daily Calorie Goal?

Adjust Calories

Manually adjust your daily calorie goal. Here is how:

Press Adjust calories and enter your preferred value. Save the new number by tapping on Save.

You also have the option to **Reset to Default, ** this allows you to reset the calorie goal from the goal you set so that you get back to the calorie goal suggested by Lifesum. This feature can be used by freemium users as well.

**Are there any limitations when editing your calorie goal? **

Yes, in order to prevent an unsafe usage of our app we have set a lower limit for the daily energy intake. The limit is individual, and varies depending on variables such as sex, age, heigh and weight.

Having a too low energy intake can be harmful, and cause a danger to our bodies and health. It is therefore of high importance not to have a too low energy intake. Due to this, we do not recommend our users to set their daily energy intake below our recommendation.

**More context and calculations: **

In Lifesum, we calculate the BMR using The Harris-Benedict equation revosed by Mifflin St Jeor in 1990:

For men: BMR = (10 × weight in kg) + (6.25 × height in cm) - (5 × age in years) + 5

For women: BMR = (10 × weight in kg) + (6.25 × height in cm) - (5 × age in years) - 160

For example: A 30 year old male user that weighs 70 kg and is 180 cm tall has the BMR:

(10 x 70) + (6.25 x 180) - (5 x 30) + 5 = 1680

This means, that if the user would try to adjust their daily calorie goal to a number less than 1680 he would trigger a warning message. The message would be stating that he is choosing a level that are below our recommendation, and that an adequate amount of energy is important.

Editing your calorie goal is a Premium feature.
