Tips for Best Results
Voice input:
- Speak clearly and at a normal pace, in a quiet environment when possible. Background noise is one of the biggest causes of misheard entries.
- Include quantity and preparation method, not just the food name (e.g. "150 grams of grilled salmon with steamed broccoli" rather than "salmon and broccoli").
Text input:
- Log one food or meal per message rather than combining several unrelated items into one long description.
- Include quantities and units when you know them ("2 slices of whole wheat toast" rather than "some toast").
Image input:
- Use natural daylight or a well-lit room. Avoid phone flashlight or dim restaurant lighting, which can distort colors and affect recognition.
- Keep all edges of the plate visible in the frame. A cropped plate makes it harder for the AI to judge portion size accurately.
- For layered or stacked foods (sandwiches, burgers, bowls), a 45-degree angle showing both the top and side of the food works better than a straight top-down shot.
- If portions are unusually shaped or sized, include a fork, hand, or other familiar object in frame for scale.
- Photograph mixed dishes (like salads) before stirring, so individual components stay identifiable.
- After the AI identifies your meal, take a moment to check and correct anything that looks off. This takes just a few seconds and meaningfully improves accuracy over time.
Barcode scanning:
- Ensure the barcode is centered, in focus, and clearly visible, with minimal glare.
Quick Track:
- Ideal for fast manual entries when you already know the exact values.
Important Notes on AI Accuracy
Food recognition limitations
- Blurry or complex images may reduce accuracy
- Vague descriptions (e.g., "a salad") may give less precise results
Why photo quality and framing matter
The AI identifies and separates food items in an image before estimating portions and nutrition. Poor lighting or color casts can make foods harder to classify correctly, while a cropped plate or an unusual angle removes visual information the AI would otherwise use to judge portion size. This is why the framing and lighting tips above have a direct, measurable effect on how accurate a result you get, rather than being general photography advice.
Portion size estimates
AI estimates portion sizes based on your input.
You can always adjust amounts manually after logging.
Food data variations
Nutritional values may vary depending on:
- Brand
- Recipe
- Cooking method
How to Improve Accuracy
- Provide detailed descriptions with quantities
- Use clear, well-lit photos focused on the food
This updated AI Tracking experience gives you the best of both worlds — powerful AI logging and full access to Classic Food Tracking — making it easier than ever to track your meals your way.
